This month, we've introduced several exciting new features and improvements to enhance your experience and make managing transactions even more seamless. Below, you’ll find a detailed breakdown of the latest additions, fixes, and updates.

## New Features

- **Added the `Issue Interledger Wallet Address to a User`**: This feature allows the issuance of Interledger Wallet Addresses to users through their `userID` and `ilpUsername`. [View the update here](https://chimoney.readme.io/reference/post_v0-2-accounts-issue-wallet-address).

- **Easier access to statements**: Accessing statements is now more user-friendly! You can view and download statements with pre-filled date ranges based on your URL parameters (`from`, `to`).

- **Subaccount tab on Transactions page**: We’ve added a new Subaccount tab on the Transactions page, allowing users to easily view transactions initiated from subaccounts.

- **Sub-account spending management**: A new feature has been added to help monitor and manage sub-account spending. This feature provides insights into weekly spending activity compared to allowed limits.

## Updates

- **Transaction Analytics improvements**: We’ve improved the Transaction Analytics page, adding more efficient currency switching via the new Currency Toggle Button. Additionally, "USD" is now the default when the selected currency is unavailable.

- **Crypto wallet addresses**: We’ve added support for issuing crypto wallet addresses to users. Admins can now enable this feature, which automatically assigns and saves a wallet address to the user's profile with they can view [here](https://dash.chimoney.io/identity/profile/crypto).

- **Optional walletID for payment requests**: We’ve introduced `walletID` as an optional parameter when initiating a payment. For more details, refer to the [initiating a payment request endpoint](https://chimoney.readme.io/reference/post_v0-2-payment-initiate-1).

## Fixes

- **Duplicate organization entries**: We fixed an issue where users were seeing duplicate entries of their organizations.

But how did we get here? What are we doing right now? And where are we doing?

At the heart of every invention lies a story, often deeply personal and rooted in real-world challenges. My journey with Chimoney is no different. When I first conceived the idea of Chimoney, it was more than just another fintech venture. It was a vision - a dream to connect every payment network globally, ensuring seamless fund flow to anyone, anywhere, regardless of currency, country, or financial status. Today, as I sit down to write about this significant milestone in Chimoney's journey, I'm overwhelmed with a whirlwind of emotions, gratitude and excitement, and memories.

## From Nigeria to Canada: A Dream, A Struggle

My journey into the world of fintech was not just a mere business endeavor. It was personal.  Growing up in Nigeria, I've seen the challenges people face when making cross-border transactions or simply trying to get paid for their hard work. The barriers, the delays, the fees - it seemed so unnecessarily complicated. 

Moving from Nigeria to the snowy landscapes of Canada was a decision fueled by dreams of a brighter future. The UofS promised a world of opportunities. But those dreams were soon clouded by the harsh realities of financial struggles, an outcome of government instability back home. Each day became a race against time, with the looming threat of unpaid tuition and a [jeopardized student visa status and deportation.](https://medium.com/@uchi/i-could-not-pay-my-tuition-and-i-almost-dropped-out-of-university-79fdb54414)

Yet, amidst this chaos, the dream persisted. Through sheer determination and countless hours of hard work, I not only graduated but went on to contribute to tech giants like Shopify, RBC, and IBM Canada. Success in the corporate world, however, didn't mean the end of my journey; it was just the beginning. Today marks the beginnings of another new beginning for Chimoney!

## The Birth of Chimoney
Inspired by the zeal to give back and create a community to connect ambitious Africans to tech opportunities globally, I founded AfricaHacks, a platform nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship among African youth. But an all too familiar challenge resurfaced. Paying winners spread across Africa and in 10 other nations became a painstaking task, echoing the financial challenges I faced years ago.

This obstacle, ironically, became the inception of Chimoney. A platform designed not just as a business but as a solution to a problem millions face daily.

# Introduction
As we look back on the month of October, we at Chimoney are filled with gratitude for the incredible support and participation during Hacktoberfest 2023. This year Chimoney marked its second consecutive year of active participation in Hacktoberfest and it was amazing!

Throughout October, Chimoney witnessed great enthusiasm from the open-source community, with over 20+ developers contributing to various Chimoney-related projects. These contributions ranged from bug fixes on previously built projects and documentation improvements to feature enhancements and new integrations.

This year's Hacktoberfest efforts focused on two key areas:
### 1. Improving Accessibility, Refining Documentation, and Developing Integrations 

**Making Chimoney's READMe Accessible to All**

Several contributors took on the initiative of localizing our READMe documentation and their efforts resulted in translations into various languages, including Japanese, Spanish, German, Korean, and Chinese. These translations not only help non-English speaking developers to contribute effectively but also exemplify Chimoney's dedication to building a diverse and inclusive open-source ecosystem.


**Improving Chimoney's API Documentation**

We prioritize developer experience by continuously refining our API documentation based on valuable feedback from the developer community. This year we sought and received feedback from contributors on how to make our API documentation better to ensure it is clear and comprehensive.

**Expanding Chimoney API Integrations**

Contributors actively developed new integrations with the Chimoney API, specifically for platforms such as Discord, Slack, Telegram, and GitHub.

### 2. Increasing Collaboration and Community Engagement

**Organizing Hacktoberfest Contributhons**

During the initial two weekends of Hacktoberfest, we organized Contributhons at the Technical University of Kenya and conducted a joint session with Maseno University and Masinde Muliro University. Surprisingly, nearly 70% of the students were new to the concept of open source and had never contributed to such projects. It was fulfilling to introduce them to the world of open source, providing guidance on their initial contributions. Through these events, we successfully introduced 160 students to the open-source community, inspiring them to embrace collaboration and continuous learning. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with participants eagerly immersing themselves in the world of open-source!

**Engaging with Contributors**

Chimoney actively engaged with contributors throughout the month through weekly office hours, providing mentorship, support, and recognition for their efforts. This engagement helped to create a welcoming and supportive environment for the open-source community.

## Featured Contributions
- [Amos Ayomide](https://github.com/amosayomide05) developed the Chimoney Discord, WhatsApp, and Telegram integration bots, providing convenient access to Chimoney transactions within these popular messaging platforms.
- [Limeskies](https://github.com/thelimeskies) created the Slack integration, facilitating money transfers within a Slack workspace. Users can effortlessly send money to other users through simple commands, leaving the bot to handle the intricacies of the transaction.
- [Ayo Awemidipupo](https://github.com/Ayo-Awe) built the GitHub bot enabling direct rewards to GitHub contributors via Chimoney, providing a streamlined approach to recognizing contributions!
- [Kartikey](https://github.com/QuantuM410) Singh built [Secret Santa](https://secret-santa-chimoney.vercel.app/), a platform that facilitates anonymous gifting among friends and colleagues using Chimoney.
- [Limeskies](https://github.com/thelimeskies) enhanced the BaseAPI for Environment Switching, introducing a Sandbox Option for the Python SDK, simplifying development and testing environments for developers.

## Incentives
To encourage participation, we rewarded contributors with $25 for each merged pull request that was considered a significant contribution. This served as a tangible expression of gratitude and a motivator for continued engagement for the contributors.

## Milestones Achieved in 2023
We had incredible growth this year and here are the highlights:
- **Pull Requests (PRs)**: 67 submitted PRs with 45 of them approved!
- **Contributors:** 31 total contributors, representing an 82% increase from 2022's 17 contributors.
- **Global Participation:** We had active participation from individuals in India, Nigeria, Kenya, and Bangladesh!
- **Issues:** 90+ issues created
- **Forks:** We passed 100+ forks and stars!
